Enhanced anticorrosion coatings prepared from incorporation of well‐dispersed silica nanoparticles into fluorinated polyimide matrix

Abstract: Series of advanced anticorrosive hybrid coatings comprising of organo-soluble fluorinated polyimide (SFPI) matrix dispersed with different feeding ratio of inorganic silica (SiO 2 ) nanoparticles has been successfully prepared through a conventional chemical imidization of polyimide and acid catalyzed sol-gel process of TEOS. It should be noted that the incorporation of SiO 2 nanoparticles into the SFPI matrix can effectively enhance the corrosion protection performance on cold-rolled steel (CRS) electrode aga… Show more

“…Over the last decade, polymer nanocomposites made with layered silicates have been intensively studied for their novel physical and mechanical properties. There are a number of potential improvements due to inclusion of layered silicates in polymers such as increase in modulus, toughness, barrier properties, flame retardancy, dimensional and thermal stability [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. All the results illustrate that in order to achieve the best possible properties of polymerclay nanocomposites, obtaining a stable dispersion in which the silicate nanolayers are completely exfoliated in the polymeric matrix is a crucial consideration; therefore, during nanocomposite preparation, the evaluation and assessment of the morphology of these nanocomposites is of great importance [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27].…”

“…Aromatic polyimide (PI) is a kind of high‐performance engineering plastic with outstanding properties, such as good film forming ability, excellent thermal stability, mechanical properties and high molecular weight. Because of these outstanding properties, PI has great potential for advanced applications in aerospace materials, electrochromic materials , gas separation membranes , and anticorrosion coatings . Corrosion poses a serious economic and industrial threat, as well as, potential danger to humans.…”
