Enhanced Anti-Cancer Effect of Snake Venom Activated NK Cells on Lung Cancer Cells by Inactivation of NF-κB

Abstract: In the present study, we investigated anti-cancer effect of snake venom activated NK cells (NK-92MI) in lung cancer cell lines. We used snake venom (4 μg/ml) treated NK-92MI cells to co-culture with lung cancer cells. There was a further decrease in cancer cell growth up to 65% and 70% in A549 and NCI-H460 cell lines respectively, whereas 30–40% was decreased in cancer cell growth by snake venom or NK-92MI alone treatment. We further found that the expression of various apoptotic proteins such as that Bax, and… Show more

“…The present study shows that FUT2 knockdown reduces Bcl-2 expression, and increases P53 expression, which is consistent with the effect of knockdown of FUT2 on apoptosis of A549 cells. Studies showed that Bcl-2 expression might be the critical mediator allowing NF-κB-activated intestinal epithelial cells to efficiently transform [ 36 - 38 ]. Effects of sh-FUT2 on the expression of apoptosis-associated protein P65 in A549 cells suggest that NF-κB signaling pathway may play an important role in cell apoptosis.…”

“…Previous trials have reported that snake venoms are able to act on the tumor in some models, such as melanoma (B16F10 cells) [21], breast (MCF-7 cells) [22], colon (HCT116 and HT-29 cells) [23], lung cancer (NCL-H460 cells) [24], and neuroblastoma (SK-N-MC and SK-N-SH cells) [25]. However, despite these data, there are few studies relating to Bothrops in cervical cancer cell lines.…”

“…SVT has an anti-inflammatory effect [ 39 ], anti-arthritic effect [ 40 ] and anti-cancer effect [ 41 ]. Previously, we demonstrated that SVT has an anti-cancer effect of prostate [ 42 ], ovarian [ 43 ], colon [ 44 ], lung cancer [ 45 ] and neroblostoma cell [ 46 ]. SVT is actually a group of basic peptides composed of 235 amino acids with six disulfide bonds formed by 12 cysteines [ 47 ] which binds to cysteine residues of target molecules.…”
