“…Durante et al [16] reported a negligible effect of CDs on cell growth when employing PSCC from Artemisia annua treated with 50 mM M–β–CD. In contrast, a reduction on PSCC growth from Daucus carota was reported when they were treated with 50 mM M–β–CD [17], as well as cell cultures from Vitis vinifera, under the same conditions [18].…”

“…Enhancement of extracellular levels of phenols in PSCC elicited with CDs has already been reported in the literature. For example, in cells elicited with M–β–CD (50 mM), vanillin concentration was boosted at the extracellular level in PSCC from D. carota and trans-resveratrol was exogenously accumulated in PSCC from V. vinifera [17,19]. The reasons for such an increase are generally attributed to the presence of elicitors, which trigger the stress response in the cell with a concomitant enhancement on the intracellular production of secondary metabolites.…”

“…Apart from the positive effect of HP-␤-CD on steroid conversion, the enhanced catalytic activity of KsdD in the presence of HP-␤-CD increases the ADD-to-AD ratio. In plant cells, CDs are used as elicitors to improve the production of artemisinin, trans-resveratrol, indole alkaloid, phytosterols, and phenolic compounds from cell suspension cultures of plants (43)(44)(45)(46). However, studies have rarely reported the effect of CDs on steroid metabolic pathways of M. neoaurum.…”

“…Bioactive compound extractions from dried broccoli by-products were performed using different sources of plant material, i.e., leaves, stems and separately or in combination. In order to compare the bioactive compounds present in the SFE extracts with those obtained from conventional extracts, the CE of carotenoids, chlorophylls, total phenolic compounds and phytosterols was carried out using the methodology described by Miras-Moreno et al [18]. Briefly, dried broccoli by-products were incubated with methanol:Tris-HCl (50 mM, pH 7.5) (1:1; v/v) in an ice bath and in darkness for 20 min at 4 • C. Then, chloroform (1:1, v/v) was added and the samples were centrifugated at 15.000× g for 5 min.…”
