Engineering Advanced Environmentally Friendly Corrosion Inhibitors, Their Mechanisms, and Biological Effects in Live Zebrafish Embryos

Abstract: Carbon steel is one of the most used construction materials and makes up the bulk of steel production in the world. However, this alloy is vulnerable to corrosion, which reduces its safety and costs trillions of dollars worldwide in terms of corrosion protection and infrastructure maintenance. Corrosion inhibitors are among the cheapest and most effective methods to minimize corrosion and maximize the shelf life of this ubiquitous alloy; however, they are often harmful to the environment. Currently there are n… Show more

“…Porcelain insulators outperform glass and composite insulators in mechanical strength, resistivity, hardness, and aging resistance. However, because of the high surface energy and wettability, their lifetime is limited primarily by the accumulation of water, ice, and pollutants on the surface, which can cause erosion and tracking degradation due to dry band arcing. , Erosion gradually reduces the materials’ ability to resist deterioration when exposed to moisture. High-magnitude leakage currents may expedite the processes that lead to insulation failure.…”

“…Researchers usually mention friction stir welding as another potential repair method. However, such a method cannot be used for the onsite processing of insulators already in use. As recently stated in articles 20 and 21, the shot peening, laser shock peening, and cold spray deposition techniques previously reported for stress corrosion cracking prevention would also create compressive stress on steel in the future. , …”

“…17−19 As recently stated in articles 20 and 21, the shot peening, laser shock peening, and cold spray deposition techniques previously reported for stress corrosion cracking prevention would also create compressive stress on steel in the future. 20,21 Additionally, all the above reported approaches cannot be utilized for the active insulators onsite. The development of robust superhydrophobic surfaces for various industrial applications, including self-cleaning, anti-icing, antibacterial, oil−water separation, and corrosion resistance, has been reported several times.…”

“…Metals, especially copper and iron, have been extensively employed in multitudes of fields including construction, power, transportation and aerospace, benefiting from their superiorities of excellent strength, high conductivity, distinguished machinability and remarkable weldability. [1][2][3] However, metal equipment is susceptible to chemical and electrochemical corrosion, giving rise to the formation of undesirable rusts on its surface. These rusts tend to deteriorate service behaviors and shorten the life of the metal equipment.…”
