Engineered bio-nanocapsules, the selective vector for drug delivery system

Abstract: SummaryThe bio-nanocapsule (BNC) is our concept of artificial hollow nanoparticles that have been designed and produced through biotechnological procedures. We proposed an empty virus-like particle, which consists of a recombinant L envelope protein of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and a lipid derived from the host cell, as an engineered BNC. Although this BNC was first developed as an immunogen of hepatitis B vaccine, the pre-S1 region in N-terminus of L envelope protein confers hepatocyte specific infectivity of H… Show more

“…It is considered that ZZ‐BNC is an efficient nano‐machine for molecular targeting in drug delivery system displaying antibodies on the surface [25, 29, 45]. Multivalency of EC‐Fc was successfully demonstrated to target ErbB2 enhancing the internalization of ErbB2, in this report.…”

“…Due to the presence of L protein, BNC can specifically deliver genes or drugs to hepatocytes. [222][223][224][225] The BNC exhibits a reliable safety profile as HBV L protein and surface antigen have already been proven to be safe as an immunogen of hepatitis B vaccine in humans. BNC shows high transfection efficiency that is equivalent to the original HBV.…”

“…When these particles penetrate into the living body, they will play various roles in biomedical and clinical applications. Recently inorganic spherical particles in micro-and nano-size are actively prepared by various methods for the applications to biomedical uses [8][9][10][11]. Silica particles are the most representative inorganic substance of these applications [12][13][14].…”
