Social-historical study aimed at discussing the nursing and psychiatric nurse models, from the discourses published in the Annals of Nursing.The historical sources were articles published in the Annals of Nursing journal, from 1933 to 1951. An analysis of the discourse was subsidized by the genealogy of power by Michel Foucault.The analysis showed that the discourse on nursing and the psychiatric nurse, in the first half of the 20th century, is set, on one side, by the propositions used by psychiatrists, who sought to reiterate stereotypes and vocations to practice nursing, and, on the other side, by the active participation of nurses seeking to legitimize expertise for psychiatric nursing. It was concluded that the discourses analyzed defined a psychiatric care focused on the nurse and not the rest of the nursing staff, at that time.

Este ensaio objetiva discutir como se dá a inserção do homem na enfermagem, uma vez que, na área das ciências da saúde (exceto medicina), a atuação profissional de um homem em uma profissão vista como feminina e exercida em sua maioria por mulheres não se dá sem debates e discussões. O estudo da história nos possibilita conhecer o passado para compreender o presente. Tendo por base a história da Enfermagem, é possível compreender porque que a profissão carrega o estereótipo de gênero e como ocorre a inserção do homem na mesma. Por meio dessa releitura, percebe-se que a enfermagem se consolidou como profissão após o enfrentamento da hegemonia masculina na dominação do mercado de trabalho. Por outro lado, após consolidada, não permitiu a abertura da profissão para uma igualdade de gênero e atraiu pouquíssimos homens para atuar profissionalmente como enfermeiros. É necessário então, que os estereótipos de gênero sejam fragmentados nas profissões, para permitir o fim das desigualdades nas relações de trabalho. AbstractIt is an essay that aims to discuss how the insertion of man in nursing takes place, since, in the area of health sciences (except medicine), the professional performance of a man in a profession seen as feminine and exercised in his Majority for women does not take place without debates and discussions. The study of history enables us to know the past to understand the present. Based on the history of Nursing, it is possible to understand why the profession carries the stereotype of gender and how the insertion of man in it occurs. Este estudo objetivou analisar as estratégias do poder no contexto da Maternidade Carmela Dutra, Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brasil, no período de 1956 a 1986. Pesquisa qualitativa com abordagem sócio-histórica na qual foram entrevistadas oito enfermeiras, utilizando a técnica de História Oral Temática. Os dados foram categorizados utilizando-se Análise de Conteúdo Temática e com base no referencial foucaultiano. Emergiram três categorias: o poder no espaço de parir; o uso do uniforme como estratégia de poder; e visita médica: espaço de poder-saber. Os resultados indicam que a atuação da enfermeira na Maternidade foi consolidando sua profissionalização, evidenciando o movimento e a flexibilidade do poder. A enfermeira convive no cotidiano da instituição com disputas, interesses e repressões enraizados nos contextos sociais, culturais e políticos revelados no interior das práticas de cuidado.
