“…A first cause could be inter-ionic energy transfer during relaxation. Recently D. Simpson showed that the ( 3 F 4 => 3 H 4 : 3 F 4 => 3 H 6 ) energy transfer happens in silica fibres even at low Tm 3+ concentrations (~30 ppm) when the 3 F 4 level is resonantly excited [21]. However he showed that there was no energy transfer when the 3 H 4 level is resonantly excited, as we did for the present study.…”

“…On the basis of analysis above, it is suggested that the emission from ODCs might be caused by multistep energy transfer from NBOHCs to ODCs, the schematic of which is shown in Fig. 3c, thus the possible upconversion mechanism for anti‐Stokes emission above is interpreted to be energy transfer 24–26.…”

“…The refractive index profiles of the fibre samples were used to obtain the A1203 concentrations. A1203 was used to modify the core region of the fibre, as it has been established that it has a lengthening effect on the fluorescence lifetimes of the 3H4 and 3F4 manifolds [5]. The A1203 is also helps to distribute the rare earth ions homogeneously throughout the glass host and provides the refractive index difference needed to guide light along the fibre.…”
