Energy sector of Cameroon

Abstract: As energy issues are at the top of the national policy agenda, policymakers increasingly need better decision-supporting processes to assist them in fostering a sustainable energy policy. This article aims at supporting the development of energy policy by evaluating the potential, limits and efficiency of energy in Cameroon. The method used is based on the analysis of different forms of energy in Cameroon, through the past trend of energy production and consumption to the current status of Cameroon energetic s… Show more

“…Thermal electricity is strongly dominated by self-production (79%) from diesel [1] , [72] ; and the remaining 21% in the form of public lighting [72] , using diesel and gasoline. Overall installed electric capacity increased from 935MW in 2009 to 1545MW in 2017 [70] , [72] . This additional 610MW is basically of thermal origin [70] .…”

“…Fossong et al [53] also stressed that RE will be a major driver of economic growth in both the short and long term in Cameroon. Several institutional actors are therefore expected to drive the implementation of strategies for such a RE future [47], [54], [55]. The narrative drawn from the literature points to abundant renewable resources, especially for solar energy and the need for efficient policies to drive a sustainable energy strategy in Cameroon.…”
