This study investigates the relationship between technological progression and ambient air pollution in top-10 polluted Middle East and North African (MENA) countries by using monthly data for the period of 1990-2017. The Quantile cointegration proposed by Xiao ( 2009), Quantile-on-Quantile regression (QQ) proposed by Sim and Zhou (2015), and Quantile Autoregressive Granger causality developed by Troster (2018) are applied. In particular, we examine to which extent, quantiles of technological progression affect the quantiles of ambient air pollution, by developing separate indicators for both the mentioned aspects using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Our empirical findings unfold mutual dependence between technological progression and ambient air pollution. Furthermore, the results of Quantile Autoregressive Granger causality test conclude a bidirectional causal relationship between technological progression and ambient air pollution.

Most of the developed world currently lives above the tropic of Cancer in cold climate regions. It follows that most of the top architectural firms are from the same countries, and most of their work is based on that experience. Experience that does not travel well to hotter countries. This paper is mainly concerned with the climates of the Middle East region, which are hot in summer and have mild or cold winters, and where the humidity ranges from dry to humid. It is a review of the factors, designs, and solutions that designers sometimes ignore, undervalue, or on the other hand, put too much weight on when working in such climates. An overview of thermal solutions is conducted, and a critique and suitability of each one for hotter climates are offered. Some of the solutions, which are thought to be helpful, have little benefit, especially traditional ones, which are not up to present-day standards and lifestyles. Others, such as courtyards, do more harm than good. A couple of case studies to evaluate houses with and without thermal measures showed improvements of 23-48%. The paper will evaluate architectural, cooling, and building design solutions according to suitability in dry and medium humidity, warm and hot countries.

MSI is a mosque located in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and known as Masjid Sultan Ibrahim. The mosques are considered unique compared to other types of buildings as they exhibit an intermittent operation schedule. This study aims to discover potential saving and provide solutions to achieve cost saving of Masjid Sultan Ibrahim of UTHM. Four potential saving methods were proposed later in this study, which include the installation of sensors, replacement of LED lamp, placement of reminder sign, and human control respectively. Result was found that about 64% of electrical energy was used on ACMV system, 35% on lighting system and the rest were general equipment. From calculation, the monthly electrical energy consumption of Masjid Sultan Ibrahim was near to 36MWh. With the proposed potential saving measures, Masjid Sultan Ibrahim is estimated to reduce the usage of electrical energy for about 13% per month. More potential saving could be found in future study if there is designated system that studies the energy consumption trend of the building.
