Abstract:Single ischelnic preconditioning improves functional recovery of isolated rat heart subjected to global ischemia and reperfusion. Two preconditioning cycles abolish this protective effect, while 4 cycles impair functional recovery of the heart. These phenomena are due to the fact that repetitive ischemic preconditioning reduces the content of phosphocreatine and adenine nucleotides in the heart before long-term ischemia, which prevents the recove13, of energy metabolism and induces additional damage to cardiom… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
