Background Currently, genetic testing is widely used to understand individual characteristics. In Korea, genetic testing has been in use, but not actively in Korean Medicine (KM). To examine the perceptions of genetic testing, we performed online survey to Korean Medicine doctors (KMDs). Methods The survey was a mobile-based study that was developed by 6 survey specialists based on electronic database search results. The questionnaire consisted of 6 categories: general characteristics of respondents, understanding of genetic testing, demand for using genetic testing, application field and utilization level of genetic testing, limitations of genetic testing, and plans and necessary efforts to begin using genetic testing based on an 11-point Likert scale. Results With the response rate of 27.2% (n = 544), 46.9% of respondents answered that they understood the definition and mechanism of genetic testing. About 80% of KMDs responded that they would be willing to use genetic testing results; a notable reason for this was the need for more objective and evidence-based test results. KMDs recognized that genetic testing could not only provide personalized treatment and care, but also help communicate with patients. Conclusions This study observed KMDs’ perceptions of the potential clinical benefits of genetic testing. We confirmed that development of genetic testing technology, knowledge of their use, and new technology-friendly policies are essential for expanding the genetic testing technology in Korean medicine.

Objective: This study was aimed to determine possible relationship between the types of human constitution used in Mongolian traditional medicine and certain types of immune response in healthy blood donors. Materials and methods: Ninety-three blood donors were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. The type of human constitution was determined using the method of Sachs R (1995) and modifi ed by Batchimeg et al. (2003), in which the titer of cytokines (Human IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, IFNγ and TGFβ) in blood plasma and in supernatant of 12hour PBMC culture were measured by ELISA. Results: Analysis and comparison of different cytokine titers in different constitution groups produced the following fi ndings: Subjects with Badgan ( , Tibetan-badken, or phlegm, or bile) type of constitution had a lower activity of Th2 mediated immune response; subjects with Shar ( , Tibetan-mkrispa [kris-pa] or mucus) humour domination had a higher activity of Th2 mediated response; and subjects with Khii humour domination may demonstrate higher activity of Th1 mediated response. Conclusion: Human typology types used in Mongolian traditional medicine are likely related to activity or intensity of certain types of adaptive immune responses and authors see an essential need to continue research in this fi eld of study. Aim of the study: This study was aimed to clarify possible relationship between human constitutional types used in traditional Mongolian medicine and stages of the disease in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study were enrolled 101 patients with established state of CHB. There were selected patients only in 3 certain phases of the disease, namely in immune active, immune inactive and immune reactivation phases. Human constitutional types used for differential approaches of diagnostics, treatment and control of diseases in traditional Mongolian medicine were determined in all participants according with examination tests developed by Sachs R (1995) and modified by Batchimeg et al. (2003). Results: Most prevalent constitutional types among patients with CHB were single Badgan or Pekan (earth, water) (24.8%) and single Shar or Tripa (fire) (18.9%) types. When patients were classified by dominant humors single Shar dominated subjects presented with 47.5% of patients. Chronic hepatitis B staging classified that 48/47.5% (25 males and 23 females) of patients are in reactivation phase, 35/34.7% (18 males and 17 females) are in inactive phase and 18/17.8% (10 males and 8 females) are in active phase. There was demonstrated significantly increased distribution of inactive phase among single Badgan type patients and reactivation phase among single Shar and dual Shar-Khii type patients (χ 2 =69.5; p=0.001). Significantly high portion of patients with active phases of CHB was demonstrated Khii dominated humors, while more patients with reactivation phases demonstrated Shar dominated humors and patients with inactive phases-Badgan dominated humors (χ 2 =55.4; p=0.001). Mean value of serum ALT and AST was significantly low in patients with dominated Badgan humors compared with that of patients with Khii and Shar dominated humors.
