Low inertia of distributed energy resources (DERs), high penetration levels of renewable energy sources (RESs) and load demand variations put the islanded microgrids (MGs) security at risk of instability. This paper proposes a twostage stochastic model for coordination of DERs and responsive loads in islanded MGs with regard to voltage and frequency security constraints. Based on the proposed model, scheduling of the controllable units in both supply and demand sides is done in a way not only to maximize the expected profit of MG operator (MGO), but also to minimize the energy payments of customers under the premise of security and stability of MG. An AC optimal power flow (AC-OPF) procedure is also used to study operating condition of the system under uncertainties and to guarantee acceptable nodal voltages and system frequency during different scenarios. The proposed stochastic optimization model is then applied to a typical autonomous MG and its effectiveness is demonstrated through different scenarios under uncertainties in load consumption and renewable energy resources (RESs) productions. Simulation results demonstrate that customers' participation in DR programs have significant effect on the system's performance in terms of voltage and frequency stability. Moreover, optimal coordination of DERs and responsive loads can increase the expected profit of MGO significantly. Hybrid microgrids containing both renewable and conventional power sources are becoming increasingly attractive for a variety of reasons. However, intermittency of renewable power production and uncertainty in future load prediction increase risks of electric grid instability and, by consequence, restrict the portion of renewable power production in microgrids. In order, to prefigure the upcoming renewable power production, particularly, wind power and photovoltaic power, we suggest using weather forecasts. In addition to illustrating short term renewable power prediction based on ensemble weather forecasts, this paper focuses on optimizing the management of distributed power generation, power storage, and power exchange with the commercial electric grid. Establishing an optimal operating plan for the grid makes the integration of the predicted renewable production more efficient. The optimization problem is formulated as an integer linear program. The operating plan is initially optimized over the upcoming day and then regularly updated and incremented to cover a longer time horizon. After analyzing the obtained plans, we test and evaluate them relative to the observed weather conditions. Finally, we investigate some practical problems that had arisen and we apply a time cascade optimization technique to mitigate the effects of initial conditions and end-of-horizon effects, as well as to take advantage of updated forecasts.

This paper proposes a new control method for a hybrid energy system. A wind turbine, a hydrogen energy storage system, and a proton exchange membrane fuel cell are utilized in the system to balance the load and supply. The system is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink and is controlled by an improved energetic macroscopic representation (EMR) method in order to match the load profile with wind power. The simulation and test results have proved that (1) the proposed system is effective to meet the varying load demand with fluctuating wind power inputs, (2) the hybrid energy storage system can improve the stability and fault-ride-through performance of the system, and (3) the dynamic response of the proposed system is satisfactory to operate with wind turbines, energy storage, and fuel cells under EMR control.
