Energy Levels of Sm2+ in BaClF and SrClF Crystals under Magnetic Field I. Theory

Abstract: The theoretical models and their accompanying procedures described in the first paper of this series are applied to the interpretation of the fluorescence spectrum under magnetic field of Sm2+ in BaClF and SrClF. The good agreement between theory and experiment testifies to the quality of the parameters involved in the zero-field Hamiltonian.Les modbles theoriques et leurs procedures daccompagnement dhcrits dans le premier article de cette aerie sont appliques L l'interpretation du spectre de fluorescence SOUB… Show more

“…As a typical example, we get D[(15) 6E,] = 3.18 for SrClF:Sm2+ to be compared with the value D[(15) 6E,] = ---9.51 in Table 2. In a more global fashion, we refitted our two experimental zerofield spectra by taking the eight additional parameters D[(lk,) W(C,,)] as given by (Al) and (A2) in [3] and by (4) and by freely varying the spin-orbit parameter D[(ll) OA,] and the five crystal-field parameters D[(Ok) W(CmV)]. As a net result, the deviation f increases to the values 1.15 and 1.34 for BaC1F:Sm2+ and SrClF: Sm2+, respectively.…”

“…This result corroborates the well-known inadequacy of the parameter ratios deduced from the electrostatic model. We now comment on the results concerning the action of a 5T magnetic field and obtained according to steps 3 and 4 of the diagonalization and optimization procedures described in [3]. The theoretical positions of each energy level with respect to the zerofield center of gravity of the multiplet 7FJ from which the level arises were calculated for BaC1P:Sm2+ and SrC1F:Sm2+.…”
