Energy Levels of Krypton, Kr I through Kr XXXVI

Abstract: The energy levels of the krypton atom, in all stages of ionization for which experimental data are available, have been compiled. No data has yet been published for Kr XI through Kr XVII. For H-like krypton very accurate· calculated level values are compiled. In all, data for 29 spectra are given. Experimental g-factors are included for Krl and Kr II. Calculated percentage compositions of levels are given for 12 ions. A value for the ionzation energy of each ion, either experimental or theoretical, is included. Show more

Aims. The aim of this work is to analyse experimental Stark halfwidths behaviour for the ( 3 P)ns−( 3 P)np and ( 3 P)np−( 3 P)nd transitions along the homologous sequence of single ionized noble gases. This kind of trend analysis can be useful for Stark halfwidths predictions and therefore for spectroscopic diagnostic of astrophysical plasmas. Methods. The compilation of Stark halfwidths was done taking into account the measurements developed in the last decades. The experimental results and observed Stark halfwidth trends for different multiplets of ionized noble gases were compared with the modified semiempirical formula (MSE) calculations and other theoretical estimations.Results. The analysis shows that the halfwidths of the spectral lines in all observed multiplets belonging to the same transitions have a similar trend along the homologous sequence. Stark halfwidths of ( 3 P)ns−( 3 P)np transitions are more or less constant, while those of ( 3 P)np−( 3 P)nd transitions have a clear increasing slope. A qualitative explanation of the observed Stark halfwidth trends based on the energy level structure is also given.

Photoionization of the3s 2 3p 4 3 P and the 3s 2 3p 4 1 DPhotoionization of neutral atomic sulfur in the ground and metastable states was studied experimentally at a photon energy resolution of 44 meV FWHM. Relative cross section measurements were recorded by using tunable vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) radiation in the energy range 9 -30 eV obtained from a laser-produced plasma and the atomic species were generated by photolysis of molecular precursors. Photoionization of this atom is characterized by multiple Rydberg series of autoionizing resonances superimposed on a direct photoionization continuum. A wealth of resonance features observed in the experimental spectra are spectroscopically assigned and their energies and quantum defects tabulated. The cross-section measurements are compared with state-of-the-art theoretical cross-section calculations obtained from the Dirac Coulomb R-matrix method. Resonances series in the spectra are identified and compared indicating similar features in both the theoretical and experimental spectra.

Valence-shell single photoionization of Kr+ions: Experiment and theory

Photoionization of Kr+ ions was studied in the energy range from 23.3 eV to 39.0 eV at a photon energy resolution of 7.5 meV. Absolute measurements were performed by merging beams of Kr + ions and of monochromatized synchrotron undulator radiation. Photoionization (PI) of this Br-like ion is characterized by multiple Rydberg series of autoionizing resonances superimposed on a direct photoionization continuum. Resonance features observed in the experimental spectra are spectroscopically assigned and their energies and quantum defects tabulated. The high-resolution cross-section measurements are benchmarked against state-of-the-art theoretical cross-section calculations from the Dirac-Coulomb R-matrix method [1].
