Energy insecurity, pollution mitigation, and renewable energy integration: prospective of wind energy in Ghana

Abstract: Wind energy is seen as an important energy to sustainably meet the energy needs of Ghana. However, the industry in Ghana is yet to take off due to policy uncertainty and regulatory costs. The paper analyzed the key determinants and how they interact to impact the scaling up of wind energy in Ghana, using time series data, the vector auto regression (VAR) model from 2013 to 2019.There were four endogenous variables, grouped under policy, population growth, wind capacity, and electrification rate. The findings r… Show more

“…There are several studies that have observed the unidirectional causal relationship of energy consumption and CO 2 release in emerging nations. These studies have shown the reliance on fossil fuel is a primary cause of environmental depletion in developing economies (Sun et al 2020a) have described the role of RE and NRE consumption on CO 2 emissions by examining the data from emerging nations. They found that the usage of NRE has improved GDP growth and enhanced environmental pollution in emerging countries.…”

“…To quantify the effects of renewable and non-renewable energy sources on CO 2 emissions and GDP growth in the 24 emerging countries on the Silk Road, Economic Belt Initiative is the primary goal of this study. In contrast to the work of (Abbas et al 2020b) (Sun et al 2020a), This study adds to the body of knowledge by investigating the effects of renewable energy on carbon discharges in the economies of SREB. The theory of the EKC says that the quadratic term of per capita GDP (GDP) is added to determine if the relationship is linear.…”

“…As some of the study countries don't have universal access, it is expected that they will embrace and scale up renewables to achieve this objective, as the Paris Accord envisages (IRENA, 2019) and (Olanrewaju et al, 2019). Furthemore, the correlation is a positive one, meaning as electrification rate increases, renewables consumption of total energy consumption increases (Sun et al, 2020).…”

“…The study further mentioned that through the dynamic perspective, the overall environmental efficiency has enhanced over the survey period from 2003) have also asserted that Chinese cities' environmental efficiency significantly differs across the cities. Likewise, (Sun et al 2020) discovered that the linkage between FDI inflows and environmental efficiency in 30 Chinese provinces is U-shaped. It indicates that FDI has reduced the environmental efficiency in Chinese provinces.…”
