Energy-Efficient Cloudlet Management for Privacy Preservation in Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks

Abstract: Currently, cloudlet based wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) is emerging as an effective paradigm to extend the performance of mobile devices, which enables the execution of computational intensive mobile applications. But the normal operation of cloudlets consumes a large amount of energy, which brings about carbon dioxide emissions, aggravation of the greenhouse effect, etc. Meanwhile the data transmission of various mobile users among cloudlets would cause leakage of personal privacy. In view of this… Show more

“…Although we adopt Simhash technique to protect user privacy, the capability of privacy-protection effects is not measured here due to the inherent nature of Simhash technique. Besides, we only consider time cost for friend finding without considering other costs such as energy consumption [24][25][26][27][28][29] and space granularity [30,31]. In the future, more discussions about various costs should be added.…”

“…However, the time consumption of task offloading is a problem waiting to be processed. The time consumption affect the experience of mobile users directly [33,34]. In order to make full use of the computing resources in edge computing reasonably, an appropriate resource schedule need to be designed.…”

“…There are many kinds of edge servers [43]. Cloudlet is a type of edge server, which has been widely used in LAN and WMAN [25][26][27][44][45][46]. Computation offloading was originally studied in MCC [28][29][30][31][32][33].…”
