Energy dependence of nucleon-nucleon inelastic total cross-sections

Show more

“…Other cross sections, like the total π 0 -n cross sections and the cross section for particular channels, have been obtained from the data following the method of Ref. [14], which tries to exploit the isospin symmetry as far as possible. A model for the generation of the final states is nevertheless needed, as we explained, and the features of this model were chosen as simple as possible.…”

“…First of all the cross sections σ T (NN → NNnπ) for the production of n pions in a collision between two nucleons in a given isospin state T are constructed, from adjusted parametrizations of experimentally known cross sections for specific final channels, following closely the method of Ref. [14] (we used more data, compiled in Ref. [15], especially at high energy).…”

“…At the present bombarding energy the production of π 0 and η mesons is known to proceed mostly via resonance excitation (e.g., R = (1232), N * (1440), N * (1520), N * (1535), etc.) and is dominated by one-meson and two-meson channels [16,[22][23][24]. For ρ 0 and ω production we have, however, assumed phase-space population in the pp → ppX reactions (X = ρ 0 or ω) with no further attempt at a more refined description of the high-mass region.…”

“…A wealth of information on exclusive pion production in nucleon-nucleon reactions has indeed been accumulated over the past 50 years (see Refs. [22,23] for reviews and Ref. [25] for a compilation).…”
