Energy dependant plant stress acclimation

Abstract: Plants may live and grow under suboptimal environmental conditions having certain biochemical and metabolic adaptations that facilitate their survival. Plant ''metabolic flexibility'' consists of the accomplishment of the same step in a metabolic pathway in a variety of different ways. Pyrophosphate which works as an energy donor when cellular ATP pools become diminished during stresses, alternative glycolytic reactions that bypass ATP-requiring steps, additional pathways for electron transport in plant mithoc… Show more

“…It was noteworthy that both Gly and ATP up-regulated the genes encoding the pyridoxal-5\′-phosphate-dependent enzyme (PRPP) and haloacid dehalogenase-like hydrolase (HAD), which were repressed by DeOGlc + IAc ( Supplementary Table S3). PRPP is an essential participant in salvage pathways for ATP regeneration 21 ; and the HAD superfamily may increase inorganic phosphate (Pi) for pyruvate and ATP production 22 . These results agree with the 2-fold reduction in ATP decline induced by Gly after fruit detachment (Fig.…”

“…In plants subjected to CA, to enhance adaptability of plant to low temperature, high levels of sugars and ATP (and other energy carriers) must be timely used to synthase COR proteins, lipids and membrance compositons, and to further promote cell membrane transport and structural rearrangement (Dobrota, 2006; Fristedt et al, 2015). In this study, such marker reflecting ATP requirement in the energy homeostasis system was the up-regulation of a variety of energy carrier proteins such as 91.4-fold ATPUMP5 (c19814.graph_c0), 9-fold ATP/GTP-binding protein (emb1579, c38770.graph_c0), and 32.2-fold ATBT1 (c47416.graph_c0) during CA (Supplementary Table S3 in Supplementary Material), which were involved in energy transfer.…”

“…The reduction in water intake by plants results in a slowing down of their metabolism (Hsiao 1973) and a reorganization of their energy resources geared to survival (Dobrota 2006). In the Mediterranean region, periods of drought are accompanied by high temperatures and high irradiance in summer (Aschmann 1973; Gasith and Resh 1999;Tsakiris et al 2007;Gratani et al 2013).…”
