Energy Consumption Minimization for Near-Far Server Cooperation in NOMA-Assisted Mobile Edge Computing System

Abstract: Mobile edge computing (MEC) is fast becoming a key communication technique by enabling mobile users to offload their computation tasks to the edge servers. However, the computation resource of each MEC server is limited which may lead to a worse offloading experience of dense edge users. Besides, the communication and computation resources are usually unevenly distributed among different MEC servers which affect the computational efficiency of the MEC network. In this paper, we propose a non-orthogonal multipl… Show more

“…In the study of energy consumption optimization based on multiple edge servers, the problem of energy waste caused by unbalanced load of edge servers is considered. Literature [27] proposed an edge server collaboration-sleep mechanism, which combined the sleep mechanism with the edge server collaboration mechanism. In the edge server, an edge server is selected as the leader server and needs to process tasks for all mobile terminals in the range.…”

“…In [16], the partial offloading scheme based on NOMA minimized the average power consumption and realized the dynamic power delay trade-off for MEC offloading by using the Lyapunov method. To improve the offloading efficiency of edge users, a NOMA-assisted MEC system was introduced in [17], where a joint communication and computation resource iterative optimization algorithm with low complexity was proposed to minimize the energy consumption. In the full-duplex mode, edge users utilize NOMA to transfer part of the computing workload to two MEC servers.…”

“…Despite its great benefit for spectrum efficiency, there are still some tricky problems with the NOMA techniques. A notable issue targets energy consumption [23][24][25][26][27]. To support simultaneous transmission in NOMA systems, much more transmission and circuit power consumption are inevitable.…”
