Energy and economic analysis of a solar-assisted multi-commodity cold storage

Abstract: Most of the existing cold storages of the developing countries are dedicated toward storage of a single commodity due to which they remain underutilized for a considerable part of a year. In this paper, a conceptual design of multi-commodity cold storage has been discussed to store three high-value perishable commodities for different periods of a calendar year for round the year utilization of the cold storage facility. A cooling system based on the lithium bromide-water absorption system has been designed to… Show more

“…The anticipated variation of the daily refrigeration load of 200 metric ton (MT) capacity vegetable cold room for the assumed atmospheric condition and location (Kolkata, India), for the representative day (June 15) is shown in Fig. 3 [63,64]. Cooling load of the cold chamber increases during the day time for product loading and unloading, and for the change of environmental conditions.…”

“…However, inadequate cold storage facilities in agricultural-based countries cause huge food loss (Sadi & Arabkoohsar, 2020), increasing the market price of the products significantly (Gardas et al, 2018). The need for cold storage is also increasing progressively, with growing food production and consumption worldwide (De & Ganguly, 2019a, 2019b. In developing nations like India, there are more than six thousand cold storage facilities operating presently to preserve agricultural products (Ganguly & De, 2018).…”
