“…There are already studies showing that its use is safe and effective for large vein closure, [8][9][10] but tortuous veins are still accepted as a relative contra-indication by many specialists. In some studies, the presence of tortuous GSV was an exclusion criteria for EVLT, being described as unsuitable for endovenous treatment, 11,12 although the characteristics used to categorize the vein as ineligible were not clear. A retrospective study made by Atasoy in 2015 with 49 large and tortuous GSVs (15mm), described six patients who required two entry sites and one patient who required three entry sites, which means 14% of the cases.…”

“…Nestes casos pode-se utilizar como tratamento a RFA ou safenectomia convencional (tratamento conservador) e, vários estudos, como o de [9], de grande relevância sobre o assunto, revela que a radiofrequência demonstra ter maior impacto na melhoria da qualidade de vida do paciente -com menor dor pós-operatória e pela brevidade do regresso às atividades de vida diária -quando comparada à safenectomia convencional.…”

“…5 In 2013, expenditure was 36.6 million Reais. 6 New treatment techniques for varicose veins of the lower limbs have been developed with the objectives of reducing the length of hospital stays and recovery times, 7 including thermal ablation using lasers 8 or radiofrequency, 9 mechanical ablation 10 and administration of sclerosant agents such as ultrasound-guided foam. 11 It should be borne in mind that the results and complications of conventional surgery are well-defined, leading to an unpleasant situation in terms of cost and benefit, which are in constant conflict.…”
