Endothelin 1 Type A Receptor Antagonism Prevents Vascular Dysfunction and Hypertension Induced by 11β-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase Inhibition: Role of Nitric Oxide
Abstract:The paper by Ruschitzka et al 1 on 11-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11HSD2) and the regulation of vascular tone contains some important mistakes. The 11HSD2 converts cortisol (F) in humans and corticosterone (B) in rodents to their inactive ketoform cortisone (E) and 11-dehydrocorticosterone (A), respectively, thus protecting the nonselective mineralocorticoid receptor from overactivation by glucocorticoids. 2 This prevents blood pressure (BP) increases associated with excess renal sodium reabsorptio… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
