Endothelial Control of Arterial Distensibility

Abstract: Medical Research Society 9P m: To evaluate the efficacy of an open access carotid duplex service in relation to the pattern of referral and outcome in a local population. Method: Review of patients attending Open Access Carotid Duplex Service in 1996197. &&&:There were 789 patients scanned (403 male, 386 female) with a mean age of 65 years and a mean waiting time of 10.9 days. The largest proportion of referrals was from physicians(39.9%) followed by vascular surgeons(22.3%), other feeder hospitals(2l.9%), gen… Show more

“…Pulse‐wave velocity may be used to assess arterial distensibility as it is inversely proportional to the square root of distensibility [10]. Non‐invasively acquired measures of pulse‐wave velocity during reactive hyperaemia represent an alternative measure of endothelium‐dependent responses [11].…”

“…In order to assess whether changes in BRS were associated with changes in arterial distensibility, brachioradial PWV was assessed in the arm using an automated non-invasive commercially available peripheral pulse waveform recorder (QVLP84; SciMed, Bristol, U.K.) [18]. PWV was calculated as distance between cuffs divided by transit time.…”
