The majority of the younger firesetters exhibited conduct problems, and it was postulated that adolescent firesetters had sexual problems (Kaufman, Heims, & Reiser, 1961;Lewis & Yarnell, 1951;Macht & Mack, 1968;Nurcombe, 1964;Vandersall & Weiner, 1970). While these early papers and studies added to our knowledge of firesetting and firesetters, they seldom employed randomization, appropriate comparison groups, or accepted diagnostic schema such as the DSM-I1 or DSM-111 to describe their diagnostic impressions.…”
