“…According to World Health Organization (WHO) [ 1 ], in 2020 nearly 10 million cancer deaths have been accounted worldwide while the most common cancer cases pertain breast cancer (2.26 million cases); lung cancer (2.21 million cases); and colon and rectum cancer (1.93 million cases) [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Therefore, the early and accurate diagnosis as well as the precise and adequate surgical removal of a malignancy can lead to the reduction of cancer’s high mortality rates [ 5 , 6 , 7 ]. Since the differentiation among benign tumors, premalignant, early-stage malignant and healthy tissue is challenging, repeated biopsies are often necessary.…”

“…Endoscopic biopsy of the colon is commonly performed in humans to diagnose intestinal diseases such as intestinal tuberculosis (Kim et al, 1998) and cancer (e.g., Lieberman et al, 2000;Schoenfeld et al, 2005) as well as in companion animals (e.g., cats, dogs) to diagnose intestinal diseases (Washabau et al, 2010). Histology is also used to examine the tissue samples obtained via endoscopy because it allows for a more precise diagnosis, especially in inflammatory and neoplastic diseases in humans (Geboes et al, 2013) and companion animals (Washabau et al, 2010). However, currently no data or literature exist around endoscopic biopsying of the colon of ruminants to investigate development throughout time.…”

“…The distal part of the colon was the targeted site of sampling, although it is possible to sample various parts of the lower GIT. For example, in human medicine, sampling of the terminal ileum is frequently used to provide information regarding inflammatory diarrhea in patients (Geboes et al, 2013). The instrument channel and endoscope were washed as described above.…”

“…With routine screening being an important step for the reduction in mortality rates of this disease, colonoscopy (an endoscopic method) is considered a primary and straightforward clinical diagnosis method of choice for CRC [4]. Aside from this method, medical imaging techniques such as CT colonography, a complementary imaging method for polyp detection in CRC, and the histological evaluation of hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) slides remain indispensable approaches to subtle inspections for CRC.…”
