Endoscopic ultrasound-guided Trucut biopsy of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumor

Abstract: In this cohort, EUS-TCB provided diagnostic histology and IC for 79 and 97% of the patients, respectively. For the initial biopsy of GIMT, EUS-TCB may be considered an acceptable alternative to EUS-FNA.

“…EUS-guided Trucut® biopsies have been tried but the diagnostic outcome has not been superior to EUS-FNA [6,7,8]. Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) techniques can provide adequate material as well as removal of the lesion but are time consuming and require anaesthesia.…”

“…Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a widely accepted and used procedure for transmural drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts, and EUS guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) has become an important tool for cyst therapy and tissue sampling in the recent years. 5 The success rate of this drainage procedure for pseudocysts has been reported to be more than 90 percent with a complication rate of less than 5%. 6,7 In this retrospective analysis, the primary objective was to determine the efficacy of EUS guided FNA for the diagnosis of cystic pancraeatic material.…”

“…1 They account for around 75% of all pancreatic cysts. [2][3][4][5] These cysts consist of pancreatic enzymes, which are dominated by amylase. Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a widely accepted and used procedure for transmural drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts, and EUS guided fine-needle aspiration (FNA) has become an important tool for cyst therapy and tissue sampling in the recent years.…”

“…Therefore, procurement of histologic specimens with the TCB needle used in this study is not recommended. The 19-gauge EUS-TCB needle has a relatively stiff sheath which renders transduodenal biopsy very difficult [11,15]. For these reasons, some previous studies evaluating this needle have limited sampling to transesophageal or transgastric punctures [18,19].…”
