“…The usefulness of EUS-guided tissue sampling in the diagnosis of pancreatic metastases has previously been reported [1, 57]. However, some of the metastatic tumors to the pancreas (e.g., esophageal and non-SCLC metastases) cannot be definitively confirmed by cytomorphology alone [5], and obtaining optimal histological samples is highly desirable to improve diagnostic accuracy and certainty.…”

“…Accurate identification of isolated pancreatic metastases is critical in determining the best surgical and/or medical management [1]. Although lung cancer can metastasize to the pancreas, the frequency ranges according to the histological subtype, and the incidence of pancreas involvement with squamous cell carcinoma is reported as 1.1% of all pancreatic metastases [2].…”

“…In one series, El Hajj et al [6] studied 72 cases of cancer metastatic to the pancreas, 21 of which originated in the kidney, while Gilbert et al [7] compiled 25 cases of metastatic cancer in the pancreas, of which 12 were from a renal primary cancer. The differential diagnosis of pancreatic neoplasms with clear cell features includes primary pancreatic adenocarcinoma with clear cell (foamy cell) features, clear cell solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas, perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (i.e.…”

“…18,19 Endoscopic ultrasonography with fine-needle aspiration is well established in clinical practice for the differential diagnosis of pancreatic lesions because of its safety 20 and accurateness. 21 However, EUS-FNA is not completely risk-free; it is expensive and requires a dedicated team of expert endosonographers and cytopathologists.…”
