Endoscopic Screening in Asian Countries Is Associated With Reduced Gastric Cancer Mortality: A Meta-analysis and Systematic Review

Abstract: In a systematic review and meta-analysis, we found that endoscopic screening may reduce the risk of death from gastric cancer and not affect incidence in Asian countries. Population-based prospective cohort studies are warranted to confirm our findings.

“…GC has high reoccurrence even after combined treatments and it is a serious health thread (23). Multiple factors are involved in the tumorigenesis and progression of GC, including tumor suppressor gene inactivation, oncogene overexpression, tumor microenvironment remodeling, lifestyle, environmental factors and others (1,24).…”

“…Por todo lo anteriormente expuesto, es que resulta fundamental comunicar y desarrollar las herramientas de estratificación de riesgo de CG que como núcleo concentran la comprensión y tratamiento de las LPG. Es así como en una RS reciente realizada a partir de estudios asiáticos, se concluyó que la detección endoscópica puede reducir el riesgo de muerte por CG, sin afectar la incidencia (Zhang et al, 2018). Int.…”

“…Each sample is a text record composed of an endoscopy report and a pathological examination report of the same patient integrated by the “Patient ID.” Each sample has a binary label representing whether the patient was diagnosed with gastric cancer. The labels were generated based on pathological examination reports because pathological screening results are usually considered the gold standard in clinical practice (Sakurai et al ; Zhang et al, ). The initial raw data passed through several stages of cleaning and processing to the final analysis‐ready dataset.…”
