Endoscopic management of intra and paraventricular CSF cysts

Abstract: Our results confirm that endoscopic management of intra- and paraventricular cysts is a valid alternative to open surgery as well as to shunting procedures. Control of clinical symptoms and signs was obtained in around 80% of our patients, while radiological evidence of cyst size reduction occurred in more than 95% of them. These rates are comparable with results of open surgery and shunting. The main advantage of neuroendoscopy is the low incidence of complications, a result that is confirmed by the present s… Show more

“…The CT scans of all the patients were obtained on the day of the surgery, after the procedure. The EAJM 2012; 44: [18][19][20][21] MRI scans were performed in the first postoperative week. When the signs and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure and hydrocephalus improved and the patient no longer needed a ventricular shunt, the endoscopic procedure was considered to be successful.…”

“…109 Although microsurgery has been the classic treatment option, 110 the composition and location of these cysts make them ideally suited for endoscopic excision. [111][112][113][114][115] Expectedly, the success of endoscopic colloid cyst removal is heavily dependent upon the surgeon's experience. 77 In our series, 32 colloid cysts were endoscopically resected, 31 of which were in adult patients.…”
