Endoscopic management of a giant dentigerous cyst

Abstract: Dentigerous cyst is one of the most common developmental cyst of the jaw which accounts for approximately 20%–30% of bone cyst in the head and neck region. Most common site is the third molar of the mandible. However, maxillary involvement is not uncommon. The clinical presentation of this depends mainly on the size and anatomical compromise that occur due to compression. This case highlights the role of endoscopic approach in the management of large expansible cyst of maxilla involving the palate, thus preser… Show more

“…Dentigerous cysts are most commonly seen in the mandible and secondarily in the maxilla. Generally the transoral route is preferred for dentigerous cysts located in the maxilla rather than the endoscopic route (2,3). However, we did not prefer the transoral route for this cyst; it can cause serious weakening of the anterior and lateral wall of the maxillary sinus.…”

“…It's important for healthcare professionals to be aware of the potential existence of AOTs, even though they are relatively rare, to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate management when encountering such cases. 6 The summary of distribution and features can be described as: Africa: Reported relative frequencies of AOTs in Africa range from 1% to 38.5%.Asia: Relative frequencies in Asia range from 1% to 16%.South America: AOTs are reported to account for 4-7% of odontogenic tumors in South America. North America: In North America, the relative frequency ranges from 2% to 7%.…”

“…Dentigerous cysts, also known as follicular cysts, are benign odontogenic cysts of developmental origin [1] . Dentigerous Cysts are most commonly, but not exclusively, present in the mandibular third molar region accounting for about 20–30 % of all bone cysts in the head and neck region [2] .…”
