Abstract:Endoscopic follow-up after curative surgery for colorectal cancer has a high diagnostic yield. Whether detection and removal of polyps increases survival is not yet clear.
“…The prevalence increases with age to reach around 60 % at the age 80 years [1, 2]. Acute diverticulitis (AD) is the most common complication of diverticulosis affecting around 4–7 % of the patients [3–6].…”
Patients conservatively treated for AD are at high risk for an underlying CRC, especially if older than 70 years, which motivates routine follow-up. A CT diagnosis of uncomplicated AD does not rule out CRC.
