Endoscopic clipping

Abstract: A frank perforation of the upper gastroin-testinal tract is usually repaired surgically. With the advent of endoscopic clipping devices, patients with gastric [1], duode-nal [2], and colonic [3, 4] perforations have been treated endoscopically. We report the successful use of an endoscopic clipping device to treat a duodenal perforation that occurred during an endo-scopic ultrasound examination.

“…Dieulafoy lesions are abnormal winding arterial vessels that project onto the muscularis mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract and can initiate massive bleeding. They have been reported in all parts of the gastrointestinal tract; however, approximately half of the cases are located in the proximal stomach in childhood (9,12,14). Experiences with the use of endoscopic clips in gastric Dieulafoy lesions in children only include only case reports; Lee et al (15) reported the use of hemoclips to control bleeding from a gastric Dieulafoy lesion in a newborn infant (3d) successfully.…”

“…The rebleeding rate after hemoclip application varies from 1.8% to 20% (9,12). The presence of shock on admission and visible vessels predict rebleeding in adult patients.…”

“…Although there have been some concerns about their use, endoclips have been proven to be safe in various clinical conditions and the reported potential complications were minimal. 26 Endoclips may interfere with radiography or other types of medical imaging, such as computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. 27 However, spontaneous sloughing of endoclips occurs at approximately 14 to 21 days and clips pass uneventfully.…”

“…Application of an endoclip is a relatively simple procedure and recently reported as a method for closing anastomotic leakage of gastrointestinal tract [10,[23][24][25][26][27][28] (Table.1.). The clip fixing device with a loaded clip can be passed through the forceps channel of a standard endoscope.…”
