Endometriose pleural: achados na ressonância magnética

Abstract: Endometriosis is a benign gynecological disorder associated with pelvic pain and infertility, primarily affecting women of reproductive age. Thoracic endometriosis affects the pulmonary parenchyma or pleura. We report the cases of two patients with pleural endometriosis who presented with recurrent pneumothorax. In both cases, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the chest showed right hydropneumothorax and well-defined, rounded nodules on the pleural surface in the right hemithorax. We conclude that MRI is a g… Show more

“…Imaging studies include principally chest radiography and CT, which can demonstrate pneumothorax, hydropneumothorax or pleural nodular lesions. Magnetic resonance imaging has increasingly gained relevance since, besides differentiating parenchymal from pleural lesions, this method presents a better spatial resolution and, if performed during the menstrual period, it can identify glandular tissue in the affected site (hyperintense foci on T2-weighted images) ( 17 - 19 ) .…”

“…Chest MRI is superior to CT in displaying diaphragmatic endometriosis lesions, thanks to its higher contrast resolution and better characterization of haemorrhagic lesions [ 13 ]. Chest MRI can also detect small pleural endometriosis characterized by the presence of small cystic hyperintense lesions on T1-weighted images of the visceral or parietal pleura [ 14 , 15 ].…”
