Endometrial Carcinoma of the Prostatic Utricle: A Tumor of Prostatic Origin

Abstract: Endometrial carcinoma of the prostatic utricle previously was believed to be of müllerian origin. We report 2 cases studied by ultrastructural and immunoperoxidase techniques. Our results, as well as those presented by others, demonstrate the prostatic origin of this tumor.

“…The prostatic utricle and the uterus are homologous structures. Rare reports of endometrial carcinoma in the prostatic utricle further highlight the shared embryologic origin [23][24][25]. We hypothesized that homology would be conserved at the molecular level, and PTENP1 would be expressed in the endometrial tissues, as has been described for the prostate.…”

“…Hence, the tumours were found at an early stage. 5,6,17,18,25,26,32,[63][64][65] Some authors even considered DAC as a tumour with no metastatic potential, 29 although mixed ductal-acinar cases were thought to have a worse prognosis, with the acinar component being the outcomedetermining factor. 11,30,33 Further studies have indicated that DAC has poor outcome.…”
