Endometrial adenocarcinoma recurrence presenting with tibial metastasis: Report of a case

Abstract: HighlightsEndometrial adenocarcinoma recurrence in tibia after 2 years of total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.Endometrial adenocarcinoma metastasis to skeletal system is extremely rare and mostly have been reported to be in axial skeleton.Fresh frozen femoral allograft was used after wide resection for the metastatic adenocancer area of the tibia and provided the bone union.Wide resection and reconstruction with an allograft might be an option to increase survival and possible cure… Show more

“…But, in literature, there were cases where metastasis occurred to tibia, temporal bone, and skull. 3 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 In a case by Madabhavi et al, endometrial cancer was reported in a 66‐year‐old postmenopausal women and metastasis was occurred to tarsal bones. 3 The case by Madabhavi et al was managed by systemic chemotherapy consisting of carboplatin and paclitaxel (175 mg/m 2) in 6 cycles of 21 days intervals, whereas in our case, it was managed by docetaxel/carboplatin chemotherapy, zoledronic acid, and bevacizumab chemotherapy.…”

“…When there is widespread disease, systemic chemotherapy can be considered [ 19 ]. Amputation may be beneficial in managing painful metastases to the fingers and toes and increase patient comfort [ 20 ]. Bisphosphonates may also offer therapeutic values, as extrapolated data from bone metastasis from breast cancer show a reduced risk of skeletal-related events and decreased bone pain [ 21 , 22 ].…”

“…2 The occurrence of isolated lower extremity metastasis is particularly rare. 3,4 Notably, some types of malignancies can also have rare metastasis to the distal lower extremities without widespread metastases elsewhere, which include breast carcinoma, 5 hepatocellular carcinoma, 6 esophageal cancer, 7 prostate cancer, 8 and neuroblastoma. 9 Hence, it is imperative to conduct a systematic and timely evaluation of patients with malignant tumors when they experience bone pain.…”
