Endogenous Hormone Variations in Annual Wild Cicer Species

Abstract: All processes that regulate of growth, differentiation and development and also stomatal movement are influenced by endogenous hormones in plants. Research related with endogenous hormones is known for cultivated chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), while in wild chickpeas no data existed. In this study, C. bijugum K.H. Rech.; C. chorassanicum (Bge) M. Pop.; C. cuneatum Hochst. ex Rich.; C. echinospermum P.H. Davis; C. judaicum Boiss.; C. pinnatifidum Jaub. et Sp.; C. reticulatum Ladiz.; and C. yamashitae Kitamura w… Show more

“…Although cytokinin is transported into the seeds of lupine, most cytokinin is synthesized in situ, probably in the endosperm (Emery et al 2000;Miyawaki et al 2004;Quesnelle and Emery 2007). In legumes, cytokinin concentrations are highest in the early endospermic fluid stage and fall when cotyledons expand (Emery et al 1998;Toker et al 2006).…”

“…Although specific hormones throughout embryo development or hormone profiles at specific embryo developmental stages have been examined in some grain legumes (Emery et al 1998(Emery et al , 2000Toker et al 2005Toker et al , 2006Weber et al 2005), a comprehensive profiling of auxin, gibberellin, cytokinin, ABA, and their precursors and derivatives has not been conducted throughout the pattern formation and early maturation stages of legume embryos. Notably, recent advances in our ability to measure minute amounts of hormones and their metabolites have occurred; for example, liquid chromatography-electrospray ionizationtandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) has been applied to comprehensive hormone analysis (Kanno et al 2010;Lulsdorf et al 2013) and is suitable for the simultaneous quantification of several hormones.…”

“…Nevertheless, the world annual Cicer species is limited to 572 accessions held in genebanks (Berger et al 2003), many of which are possibly duplicates or misidentified (Shan et al 2004). The studies on morphological (Robertson et al 1997), cytological (Ahmad 2000), biochemical (Toker et al 2006a) and molecular studies (Kazan and Muehlbauer 1991;Shan et al 2007) indicate that C. reticulatum Ladiz. is the wild progenitor of the domesticated chickpeas (Ladizinsky and Adler 1976;van der Maesen et al 2007;Redden and Berger 2007).…”

“…In many studies, the physiological responses in flower bud and embryo formation, development, flower bud abscission, fruit set and growth performed by plants are thought to be due to CKs. Recently, many metabolites have been identified for CK-like compounds, but their importance and regulation of metabolic changes are still largely unknown (Ahmadi and Baker, 2000;Baktir et al, 2004;Stirk et al, 2004;Toker et al, 2006;Bajguz and Piotrowska, 2009;Okay et al, 2011). The most biologically active CKs are t-Z, DHZ and 2iP, while c-Z is thought to exhibit poor activity or none.…”
