Endogenous Endophthalmitis in a Two-Week-Old Neonate with Hypofibrinogenemia

Abstract: We report a two-week-old neonate with congenital hypofibrinogenemia and neonatal sepsis who developed left endogenous endophthalmitis. Gram positive bacillus Rothia dentocariosa and Gram negative bacillus E. coli were isolated from blood culture. Despite early initiation of both topical and systemic antibiotic therapy the baby had a deteriorating course and the eye was eviscerated.
