“…While we can suspect that cultural changes played a role in current explosion of suicide prevalence among Inuits, starting in the 1970s, it is important to keep in mind that we do not know the effect size of these variables. They may even not always be in play in indigenous suicides as shown among four indigenous groups (the Aguarunas of Peru, the Vaqueiros of Spain, the Baruyas of Papua New-Guinea, and the Palawans of the Philippines) that interestingly shares some common features with the Inuits, notably the egalitarian organization and high rate of endogamy [6].
