Endobrush Sampling For Endometrial Cancer

Abstract: The two intra-uterine cytological sampling methods Endobrush and Pistolet were compared for clinical applicability in 66 premenopausal and 47 postmenopausal women. The taking of the specimens succeeded in 94% of the cases with the Endobrush method and in 99% with the Pistolet method. The two intra-uterine sampling methods were both almost painless. The Endobrush and the Pistolet specimens were filtered and stained by the Papanicolaou method. The Endobrush specimens were also used to make smears, which were als… Show more

“…Other reports of insertion success also indicate high rates, 93.8-97%. 1,7 When compared to the suction method, this method shows equivalent or better insertion rates. 5 The Uterobrush has an outside diameter of 2.5 mm and therefore is thinner than the Endocyte; insertion is simple.…”

“…5 Devices for sampling endometrial cells-a suction device by Masubuchi, the Endocyte, the Endosearch and others-are used presently. 2,3,7 In this study we assessed endometrial cytodiagnosis with the Uterobrush (Medscand, Malmö, Sweden, and Teikoku Hormone, Tokyo, Japan) and compared it with the Endocyte.…”

“…Therefore, there is an urgent need for alternative devices which can be used for early detection of endometrial lesions, especially carcinoma and its precursors. Since the 1970s, several uterine sampling devices which show relatively high sensitivity and specificity for early diagnosis of endometrial lesions have been developed for screening for endometrial lesions (Longacre et al 1995; Bistoletti and Hjerpe 1993; Vuopala et al 1989; Tajima et al 1998; vanHoeven et al 1996). This review provides an overview of available endometrial devices for sampling and early diagnosis of endometrial lesions, critically evaluates the advantages and deficits of these samplers, and suggests considerations for future development of such devices.…”

“…To perform the test, a sample of cells is taken from in and around the cervix with a wooden scraper and placed on a glass slide and rinsed in liquid fixative and sent to a laboratory for examination. [9][10][11][12] The study was conducted to see the Role of Papanicolaou Pap in the diagnosis of Non Neoplastic Gynecological Diseases.…”
