Endobronchial Lipoma:A Series of Three Cases and the Role of Electrocautery

Abstract: Lipomas are rare endobronchial tumors that may cause severe parenchymal damage due to bronchus obstruction and subsequent pneumonia. Therefore, accurate diagnosis and radical treatment are essential. We describe three cases of endobronchial lipoma. One patient presented with hemoptysis, two patients were initially diagnosed as COPD. They were all treated by electrocautery which achieved complete removal. We recommend electrocautery as an easy and cost-effective alternative for removal of intraluminal tumors in… Show more

“…YAG laser and cautery have also been described as alternative therapeutic modalities. 4,5 Aggressive surgical resection may be required if it is difficult to exclude malignancy, if the presence of extra-bronchial growth or subpleural lipomatous disease is noted, if evident peripheral irreversible lung parenchymal changes are noted, or if technical difficulties during bronchoscopic resection are expected. 6 In conclusion, clinicians should be aware of this rare entity that can clinically mimic other common pulmonary pathology.…”
