NuText is a novel music-encoding technology based on numbered musical notation. This paper outlines the notation principles of numbered musical notation and delineates the conversion relationship and encoding protocol between NuText and numbered musical notation. Furthermore, this study demonstrates NuText's playback software and its practical applications, including digital artwork creation, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), and social use, and identifies opportunities to develop it as a music technology. The encoding method proposed herein was implemented on PCs and mobile devices, and the method has been successfully applied to sports-oriented music. The image steganography method used in digital artwork creation, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), and social use does not destroy images, and it has been implemented on mobile devices. NuText is a note-level encoding method, which has advantages for interpreting music connotations and a great potential in the development of music information retrieval and artificial intelligence composition. In future work, special musical skills may be added, including the modification of each note velocity, and this may be incorporated into the encoding specification to realize sound in virtual reality.

This paper presents the specifications of match: a file format that extends a MIDI human performance with note-, beat-, and downbeat-level alignments to a corresponding musical score. This enables advanced analyses of the performance that are relevant for various tasks, such as expressive performance modeling, score following, music transcription, and performer classification. The match file includes a set of score-related descriptors that makes it usable also as a bare-bones score representation. For applications that require the use of structural score elements (e.g., voices, parts, beams, slurs), the match file can be easily combined with the symbolic score. To support the practical application of our work, we release a corrected and upgraded version of the Vienna4x22 dataset of scores and performances aligned with match files. * equal contribution.

Music encoding can link disparate types of musical data for the purposes of archiving and search. The encoding of human response data explicitly in relation to musical notes facilitates the study of the ways humans engage with music as performers and listeners. This paper reflects on the developments and trends in formal music encoding systems as well as the types of data representations used in corpora released by researchers working on expert music analyses, musical performances, and listener responses. It argues that while the specificity (and often simplicity) afforded by project-specific encoding formats may be useful for individual research projects, larger-scale interdisciplinary research would be better served by explicit, formalized linking of data to specific musical elements. The paper concludes by offering some concrete suggestions for how to achieve this goal.
