Encephalitis: Diagnostic and Management Challenges

Abstract: Encephalitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the brain which may be caused either by direct infection of the brain parenchyma or as a post-infective process with a more increasingly recognized association with autoimmune etiologies. Establishing etiology is a crucial first step alongside initiating appropriate management. This article will explore the taxing issues clinicians face whilst investigating such cases and their therapeutic challenges.
