“…In this way, he was able to combine the attainments of the French hodology with the German cytopathology in pioneering studies concerning hereditary degenerative diseases, in particular the heredo‐ataxias; genetic metabolic illnesses, especially the lipidoses; and acute and sub‐acute encephalitides. Noteworthy are, for example: Introduction et essai de systématique of the heredo‐ataxias and Conclusions générales for the XIVth congress of the ONO Society at Toulouse in 1948 (van Bogaert, 1948a,b); several chapters on Les Maladies systématisées, Les Maladies extrapyramidales and Maladies pseudo‐systématisées in Traité de Médecine, 1949 (van Bogaert, 1949a,b,c); the organization of a Colloque international sur les lipidoses du système nerveux central at Antwerp in 1955 (van Bogaert, 1957); several chapters on encephalitides in Handbuch der speziellen pathologischen Anatomie und Histologie, 1958 (van Bogaert, 1958a,b,c); a symposium on Encéphalites actuelles held at Antwerp in 1959 (van Bogaert, 1961); a series of lectures on the subject of Maladies nerveuses génétiques d'ordre métabolique for the Chaire Francqui at the University of Liège during the academic year 1961–1962 (van Bogaert, 1962).…”
