Encapsulation of Vitamin C by Glycerol-Derived Dendrimers, Their Interaction with Biomimetic Models of Stratum corneum and Their Cytotoxicity

Abstract: Vitamin C is one of the most sensitive cosmetic active ingredients. To avoid its degradation, its encapsulation into biobased carriers such as dendrimers is one alternative of interest. In this work, we wanted to evaluate the potential of two biobased glycerodendrimer families (GlyceroDendrimers-Poly(AmidoAmine) (GD-PAMAMs) or GlyceroDendrimers-Poly(Propylene Imine) (GD-PPIs)) as a vitamin C carrier for topical application. The higher encapsulation capacity of GD-PAMAM-3 compared to commercial PAMAM-3 and diff… Show more

“…Recently, we further studied the ability of glycerodendrimers GD-PAMAMs and GD-PPIs to encapsulate vitamin C and its interaction with the stratum corneum. We showed that GD-PAMAM-3 is the best candidate for cosmetic application due to its good vitamin C encapsulation capacity, its low cytotoxicity and its interaction with the stratum corneum [14].…”

“…Above this generation, the size of the PAMAM dendrimer cannot increase due to the lack of free space for branch growth. In general, small generations of dendrimers have an open, mobile, and asymmetric structure, and with increasing generation, this structure becomes more globular and densely packed (Bacha et al, 2023; Fréchet, 2003; Majoral et al, 2002; Merino et al, 2001; Ortega et al, 2006; Tomalia & Khanna, 2016; Vlasov, 2006).…”
