Encapsulation of the uranyl dication

Abstract: We report here the application of self-assembly to the sequestration of uranyl ion, the dominant form of uranium on Earth. The assembly presents the ion with convergent carboxylate ligands, isolates it from solvent, encapsulates it with aromatic panels and allows its extraction from aqueous solutions in the presence of excess brine.

“…Although the model dimer, in most cases, showed more intense CDs in the absence and presence of achiral and chiral amines than the polymer, it lacks a cooperativity, and chiral amplification cannot be anticipated. It has been well‐established that carboxylic acids are useful components for constructing well‐defined supramolecular two‐ and three‐dimensional architectures assisted by metal coordination, which may provide an alternative way to produce novel homo‐double and ‐triple helices with a controlled helix‐sense . This study is now ongoing in our laboratory.…”

“…[1][2][3] Thus it is valuable to recover uranium from the seawater. To recover uranium from the seawater, many methods including solvent extraction [4][5][6][7] ion exchange, [8] flotation, [9] biomass collection and adsorption [10][11][12][13][14] have been developed. Among these methods, the adsorption of uranium on polymeric chelating adsorbents had attracted wide attention.…”

“…[1][2][3] Many types of adsorbents have been developed and tested for the recovery of uranium from seawater and aqueous media. To recover uranium from seawater at the price competitive with those from conventional uranium resources, many methods such as solvent extraction [4][5][6][7] ion exchange [8], flotation [9], biomass collection and adsorption [10][11][12][13][14] have been developed. The studies indicate that poly(acrylamidoximes) are the most promising candidate adsorbents for the recovery of uranium from seawater.…”
