Encapsulation of NIR-II AIEgens in Virus-like Particles for Bioimaging

Abstract: The development of organic nanoparticles that fluoresce in the near-infrared, especially in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window, improves in vivo fluorescence imaging due to deeper penetration and higher spatiotemporal resolution. We report two kinds of NIR-II fluorescent molecules with twisted intramolecular charge-transfer (TICT) and aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics. The virus-like particles (VLPs) of simian virus 40 (SV40) were used as templates to encapsulate the molecules in a well-… Show more

“…HFn was expressed in Escherichia coli and purified by precipitation with ammonium sulfate as previously described. 42,43 HFn-PtMs were achieved by loading PtM into the cavities of HFn nanocages through disassembling HFn in 8 M urea at pH 5.0 (Fig. S7, ESI †).…”

“…The probe FPS with excellent linear relationship for the Zn 2+ detection showed good and weak potential in imaging the exogenous and endogenous Zn 2+ , respectively, which can lead to the exploitation of growingly specific probes, particularly fluorescent for detection of Zn 2+ , Cu 2+ and diagnosis of Zn 2+ , Cu 2+ related diseases. In addition, the DFT calculations results showed how the structure affects the fluorescent behavior of FPS , which may help us to understand the essence of metal ions regulating effect in nature, and even give valuable reference to extend the real application of cell imaging ( Li et al, 2021 ), imaging-guided ( Sun et al, 2019 ), stimuli-responsive bioimaging ( Min et al, 2021 ).…”

“…In addition to the enhanced stability of ICG, these (VSV-G)-based NIR active viral nanoconstructs (NAVNs) showed a higher cellular uptake and delivery of ICG in HeLa cells than that of the free form of ICG. Furthermore, simian virus 40-derived VLP (SV40-VLP) was chosen as a carrier for the NIR-II fluorescent molecule CH1 ( Min et al, 2021 ). SV40-VLPs produced in Escherichia coli were disassembled into virus particle (VP1) pentamers to encapsulate fluorescent molecules.…”
