Encapsulation by Janus spheroids

Abstract: The micro/nano encapsulation technology has acquired considerable attention in the fields of drug delivery, biomaterial engineering, and materials science. Based on recent advances in chemical particle synthesis, we propose a primitive model of an encapsulation system produced by the selfassembly of Janus oblate spheroids, particles with oblate spheroidal bodies and two hemi-surfaces coded with dissimilar chemical properties. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we investigate the encapsulation system with spherical … Show more

“…In this study, we utilize the same model for the encapsulation system as proposed in the earlier work. 32 In the system, the encapsulating agents are Janus spheroids and the encapsulated guests are isotropic spheres (as shown in Figs. 1(a) and 1(b)).…”

“…This is particularly true for an aspect ratio equal to 0.6. 32 In this article, we continue our study of this new proposed encapsulation system and further investigate the associated thermodynamics of self-assembly. The phase diagram of this blended system remains unknown, and our main focus is on the encapsulation properties.…”

“…The experimental fabrication of such particles is of research interest in itself [48,58,59], as is the theoretical understanding of the interactions between spherical [60,61] or between non-spherical Janus particles [62,63], because they are considered to be promising building-blocks for selfassembling materials.…”

“…The systematical study about the dependence of shape and surface interaction of Janus particle is necessary. [39][40][41][42] However, their model is only suitable for Monte Carlo simulation because of the inconsecutive potential and the accurate dynamics of the system is unavailable. In experiments, Janus ellipsoids have been successfully synthesized and the self-assemblies of Janus ellipsoids with different shapes were studied in the past.…”
