“…Compared to cyclodextrins (CDs), CBs have distinct advantages in that they can modulate the acid–base equilibrium of the encapsulated guest molecule without changing the pH of the media due to ion–dipole interactions between the positive center of the guest molecule and the carbonyl groups of CB. , CBs are also known for their ultrahigh binding affinities as a host toward a guest molecule in aqueous medium compared to other macrocycles such as CDs . Because of these distinct hosting properties, particularly being non-toxic (in the low-mM range) in vivo and in vitro, , CBs have been widely used to increase the aqueous solubility of drug molecules such as benzimidazole (BZ) and benzothiazole (BT) derivatives , and to develop supramolecular IDA assay for the detection of over-the-counter drugs and steroids . Specifically, the distinct host-induced p K a shifts of CB have already been exploited for the development of new chemical sensors through monitoring the fluorescence changes upon the competitive displacement of the dye molecule from the cavity of the host with important drug molecules, such as cadaverine , and octerotides …”

“…It should be noted that the described method is used not only for the investigation of micellar-like systems, such as calixarene aggregates, cucurbiturils, polyelectrolytes, and phospholipid bilayers, , but for a variety of different systems as well, such as detonated nanodiamond particles, fullerenols, metal surfaces, and air bubbles . Proteins were also examined with this method, up to a complete bacteriophage virus capsid …”

“…Importantly, the Ψ values obtained with different indicators for a given kind of micelles as a rule do not coincide; 15,16 this fact is discussed in more detail in Section 5.2 and the accompanying paper. 41 It should be noted that the described method is used not only for the investigation of micellar-like systems, such as calixarene aggregates, 42 cucurbiturils, 43 polyelectrolytes, 44 and phospholipid bilayers, 45,46 but for a variety of different systems as well, such as detonated nanodiamond particles, 47 fullerenols, 48 metal surfaces, 49 and air bubbles. 50 Proteins were also examined with this method, 51 up to a complete bacteriophage virus capsid.…”

“…As traditional natural medicine, β‐carboline has been investigated using steady‐state absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy [27] . We discovered that the β ‐carboline has potential AIE performance.…”
