Enantioselective/Anion-Selective Incorporation of Tris(ethylenediamine) Complexes into 2D Coordination Spaces between Tripalladium(II) Supramolecular Layers withd-Penicillaminate

Abstract: The formation of a cocrystallized coordination compound, [Pd(3)(D-pen)(3)](2)·[M(en)(3)](ClO(4))(3) (D-H(2)pen = D-penicillamine; M = Co(III) or Rh(III)), from [Pd(3)(D-pen)(3)] and [M(en)(3)](ClO(4))(3) is reported. In this compound, only the Δ-configurational [M(en)(3)](3+) cations were incorporated when its racemic (Δ/Λ) isomer was employed. Besides this enantioselective incorporation of complex cations, this compound was found to show the selective incorporation of ClO(4)(-) as the anion species.

“…In a large fraction of the NS structures with Cys or Pen, the sulphur atom is simultaneously ligated to another atom, often Cd, Co, Cu, Ag or Au, which for the first two may be a bidentate OS interaction as in Figure 39(b) (IYIBIC). [179] OS' is an example of the third bidentate binding mode, generally called OX . It is less frequent than NO and NX and has been found in only 20 structures, with Pen as a dominating amino acid (nine structures) in complexes with Pd that, as described above, is usually also involved in NS Figure 40.…”

“…Several structural reports of diastereomeric coordination compounds such as Δ‐[Co(en) 3 ] Y 3 , where Y is a chiral anion have appeared as well as a coordination compound adduct. Examples of diastereomeric Δ‐[Co(en) 3 ] Y 3 coordination compounds: Δ‐[Co(en) 3 ](fumarate)(NO 3 ) · 2H 2 O, Δ‐[Co(en) 3 ][MoO 3 (C 2 O 4 )OH 2 ]I · 2H 2 O, Δ‐[Co(en) 3 ]Δ‐[Co(en)(ox) 2 ]I 2 · H 2 O, and Δ‐[Co(en) 3 ]Δ‐[Cr(ox) 3 ], and an adduct: Δ‐[Co(en) 3 ](ClO 4 ) 3 · 2[Pd 3 ( d ‐pen) 3 ], where d ‐pen = d ‐penicillamine . In contrast to these examples, to the best of our knowledge, we report the first example of the enantiomeric Δ‐[Co(en) 3 ] X 3 coordination compound.…”
