“…4) This lactone 1a has also been shown to occur in Hierochloe odorata and Hierochloe australis, both being commonly used in vodka production. 5) Its structure was conrmed to be 1 by the synthesis of its racemate, 6,7) and the absolute conguration of natural 1a was determined as (R) form by the unambiguous synthesis of its unnatural (S )isomer 1b. 8) Many reports on the synthesis of the racemate (1) 914) and both enantiomers (1a and 1b) have been published.…”

“…Pure (1s) and (1R) enantiomers of 1 (500 mg each) were obtained by preparative HPLC of the product mixture on silica gel (Lichrospher SI 100; 5 pm; 250 x 16 mm; Knauer, Berlin, Germany) using cyc1ohexane:tert-butyl methyl ether (1: 1) as eluent (7.5 mL/min) and UV detection (254 nm). The determination of the optical rotation of the optical antipodes of 1 was achieved by on-line HPLC/ChiraMonitor detection (ACS ChiraMonitor, Zinsser, Frankfurt, Germany) on Hibar Chiraspher (RT 250-4mm; 250X4mm; 5pm; Merck, Darmstadt, Germany) using n-hexane as eluent (0.8 mL/min) (Huffer and Schreier, 1989;Bernreuther et al, 1990).…”

“…The analysis of EOs with this method mostly focused on the specific features such as history, worth, source (biogenesis) of samples. This method involves chiral analysis that is the application of conventional column with the other chiral column to analyze the constituents and to avoid the overlapping of the peaks, thus it cannot be done with a single column . Enhancement of gas‐phase techniques for the sesquiterpenes and uses of multidimensional GC for EOs analysis was discovered in the last two decades.…”
